I smell…

This is just a short anecdote of something that happened in my classroom last week.

I had lit a candle on my windowsill because the room smelled musty. Toward the end of the day I blew it out so I wouldn’t forget it as I was rushing out the door. A minute or two after I blew it out, one of my first graders looked up and around the room, and said, “I smell birthday cake.”

Interesting how we associate smells with certain things. All he smelled was the remnant of smoke, but he was convinced I had birthday cake in my room somewhere.
